Rutland Lions are looking to relocate their two large shipping containers from land owned by Burley Fires, and need your help finding somewhere new.

Now the largest humanitarian service organisation in the world, Lions Club International was founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones, whose guiding principle was, "You won't get very far in this world until you start doing something for somebody else".

Rutland Lions have been running since 1975 and, having spent nearly 50 years "doing something for somebody else" are looking for assistance within the local community to relocate their shipping containers.

For the last eight years, Rutland Lions have located two shipping containers on land owned by Burley Fires in Oakham. Following plans for development of that land at the bottom of Pillings Road, Burley Fires have given notice for Rutland Lions to relocate their containers by the end of the year.

The two 20 foot shipping containers store all of the clubs assets, from Santa's sleigh, all their barbeque catering equipment along with a range of other items that enable them to undertake their major events throughout the year.

The annual events include a number of community service barbeques, the annual Oakham firework display and of course, hosting Santa's visit to Uppingham and Oakham each Christmas.

Rutland Lions are now looking for a suitable location within a five mile radius of Oakham, complete with hard standing and similar secure access, and as a charitable organisation, ideally at little or no rental cost.

Initial enquiries regarding space at the ideally located Oakham Enterprise Park have come to nought, based on a ground rent of £1,000 per annum required by Rutland County Council.

If anyone is able to help find suitable accommodation for the Lions shipping containers, please contact Rutland Lions Secretary Allan Grey via the details below:

Contact Allan Grey, Secretary of The Lions Club of Rutland, via [email protected] or 07919 993038.

Rutland Lions would like to take this opportunity to offer a massive thanks to Burley Fires for accommodating their containers at zero cost, having granted them 24/7 secure access for that duration.
