Rutland Morris presented with award from High Sheriff of Rutland for valuable services to the community

The High Sheriff of Rutland has presented Rutland Morris with an award to celebrate their contributions to the community.

At a special rehearsal last night, the High Sheriff Richard Cole and a police cadet joined in with some Morris Dancing, before presenting the group with their award.

Taking place in Rutland since the early 20th century, Morris Dancing has always been a key part of Oakham and Rutland's heritage and community. In the 1920s and 30s, Morris was a regular activity in schools and this legacy has continued until today. Rutland Morris Men was formally founded in 1974 and became Rutland Morris in 2024 to welcome both men and women to join in.
Rehearsals and dances regularly take place most Monday evenings, with their popular 'have a go at Morris Dancing' workshop in January attracting new dancers interested in giving Morris a try.
