The members at Rutland Musical Theatre have donated £500 to Rutland Foodbank this Christmas.
Rutland Musical Theatre are a local amateur dramatics society who put on 2 shows a year, their musical in April, and a cabaret performance in December.
The society was founded in 1980 by a small group of people who were keen to start the first 'Musical Theatre' Society in the County, this being due both to a love of music and theatre generally and also to preserve the name of Rutland - which at that time was under threat.
The first show was Showboat, performed in Uppingham Theatre in April 1981 to much acclaim. Since then the Company has gone from strength to strength and is now a well respected part of the Rutland scene.
The Company has become a Registered Charity (No: 513497) and work with other local charities, such as Rutland Foodbank, to support the local community.
Rutland Foodbank support local people in food poverty, and deliver food to those in need 5 days a week.
Between 1st April and the 30th September 2022 the Rutland Foodbank team delivered 349 emergency food and toiletries packs and provided ingredients for nearly 20,000 meals.
This is more important now than it has been, with the increase in food and fuel poverty at the hands of the cost of living crisis.
The Rutland Musical Theatre team said: "We're so grateful for all the fundraising efforts of our members and hope this money will help support members of our community! It was fantastic to meet Ali and her hardworking team of volunteers this morning. The Rutland Foodbank provides such a valuable service for our local area, which is so greatly needed right now."
