Rutland Open Art Exhibition winners announced at museum event

The prizewinners of the Rutland Open Art Exhibition have been announced following fierce competition.

The Rutland Open Art Exhibition took place throughout September and welcomed competing artists who create pictures, paintings, sculptures and more in a variety of mediums.

Organised by Arts For Rutland, the event is a popular annual competition for local artists to show off their skill, welcome the publicity and sell some original work to local enthusiasts and art connoisseurs.

The event culminates at the prize giving event, which took place over the weekend and welcomed Rutland's Lord-Lieutenant, Dr Sarah Furness, and the High Sheriff of Rutland, Geraldine Feehally.

The team at Arts For Rutland, who organise a range of art, film and creative events across the county, said: "The judges were impressed with the standard and range of work put forward."

While all entires were top quality, the winners were selected and crowned this weekend:

1st Place - Philip Dawson with Reeds Bullrushes, Rutland Water

2nd Place - Kevin Holdaway with View of Gran Canal

3rd Place - Christine Davis with Field

4th Place - Connie Taylor with Orb of Happiness 2

Andrea Naylor, who runs art classes in and around Oakham as well as producing her own work for purchase and competitions, said: "I was very pleased to get Highly Commended with my lion painting 'Soulmates' in the Rutland Open Art Exhibition."

All of the artwork is available to buy and browse until 21 October, so head down to Rutland County Museum on Catmos Street on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 10am until 4pm.
