Beloved local celebrities, the Rutland Water Ospreys, have been busy testing their wings. The four chicks, two male and two female, have grown significantly since they hatched in mid-May.

As of 11.38am on 3rd July, three out of the four Osprey chicks have fledged, meaning they are able to fly short distances from the nest.

Before they fledge, the chicks start by 'helicoptering,' a type of flying where they just go up and down, before they start flying more. After they have built their confidence, the chicks will remain in the nest but start venturing further, leaning to fish for themselves.

Osprey fans can still watch the live nest-cam through the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust website and follow the Rutland Ospreys on Facebook for regular updates.
