A well-known cricket coach has netted approval for new training facilities in Caldecott.

Former Leicestershire County cricketer Thomas Flowers of Great Easton, Leicestershire, has gained planning approval from Rutland County Council to offer net facilities in a converted bar at Fairchild Lodge on Lyddington Road.

As Nub News previously reported Mr Flowers, who has run a cricket coaching business since 2015, wanted to insert two removable cricket net facilities (Mats & Netting) and additional indoor lighting sources to the agricultural barn so that it can be used for cricket practice/leisure in the off season.

He said in his application: "This will provide local cricket clubs and individuals a cost effective and fit for purpose cricket facility which is much needed in the area given the large number of cricketers and clubs in Leicestershire and Rutland."

A report by council planning staff considered issues including noise, traffic, flooding risk and potential contamination of the site. It also noted that the change of use simply concerned the barn, rather than the whole of the site.

It concluded: "While prior approval was required on 24/08, the applicant has now provided sufficient information, and the change of use is considered to be acceptable."
