Rutland praised for adoption services

Rutland's adoption services have been praised for the support they provide to children and young people, following a review of local authorities throughout England.

National adoption scorecards are published by the Department for Education (DfE) and show the amount of time taken by local authorities to find a home for children in need of adoption.

The latest DfE review looked at the performance of 152 local authority areas in England between 2015 and 2018 and found that Rutland had met important national targets for time taken to match and place children with an adoptive family.

This has helped to reduce unnecessary delays and improve the experience of children and families who go through the adoption process.

Nadhim Zahawi MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families, says:

"I am delighted with the work Rutland has done to ensure that children are found a permanent home without delay and I hope that you can continue to perform strongly in this area."

Rutland County Council's Mark Andrews, Strategic Director for People Services, comments: "Adoption means providing a permanent family for children and young people who can't return home.

"We want to find children a safe and caring family environment as quickly as possible, so that they have the stability and security they need.

"We're really pleased with the way the service has performed and are proud to support children and young people in Rutland."

Rutland County Council is always happy to hear from people who may be able to provide a permanent, stable and caring home for children in need of adoption. The minimum age for adopters is 21 and life experience is essential.
