The Rutland community is rallying around to help the fire-hit Uppingham Community College.

JustGiving pages have been set up to raise funds for the college and a cricket club is to donate some the money it raises at an event this weekend.

Former college student Zoe Mitchell hopes to raise £1,000 for the college, from her JustGiving Page.

More than £2,000 has been raised so far- more than double Zoe's target.

The money raised would be spent by the student council.

Natasha Wood also hopes to raise £10,000 with her JustGiving Page.

In addition Gretton Sports Social Club is to raffle a signed Saints rugby shirt, along with other activities at its charity cricket match on Sunday.

The college has responded on social media: "Team UCC has been totally overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, generosity, messages of positivity and love that we've received from parents, students, ex students, ex staff, members of the local community, nearby schools & businesses.

"It's really been amazing to see."

As Nub News reported yesterday, the re-opening of the college has been delayed a week by the 'serious' fire, which struck in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
