Three Rutland residents have been featured on a Sky News Segment alongside a popular local cafe this week.

Rutland residents, Lucy, Hannah and Zoe were interviewed at Rutland Refill at 1 Westgate Street, just off Oakham High Street by Sky News this week, discussing the increasing Council Tax which, in Rutland, is the highest in the country.

Lucy Slessor, local mother and organiser of Oakham Pride, along with neighbours Hannah and Zoe, spoke to Sky News about the increase in Council Tax.

Hannah said: "It's reached a point where we're not just seeing a lack of development in the town, but also an actual reduction in the infrastructure and the facilities.

"We're paying more and more and getting less and less."

Zoe added: "It's just making an already unaffordable situation harder.

"You're already trying not to turn your heating on as much as possible to save some extra pennies, and now those pennies are going into the pocket of the Council."

Lucy Stephenson, Leader of Rutland County Council, was also interviewed, highlighting that Rutland Council received a much lower rate of support from the Government at only £504 per head of population, whereas other areas receive £1019.

Conservative Cllr Stephenson added: "all we're asking is for a little more money [from the Government] to be fair."

This comes as Rutland County Council announce that Council Tax will be increased by 4.99% in April, the largest amount allowed by central Government.

Councillors dubbed this move 'the only possible option'. Read more here.
