Today, Tuesday 13 December 2022, Rutland residents have posted themselves outside Oakham's Victoria Hall to protest the Jeakins Weir housing development proposed for Braunston Road North.

The application had been previously denied by Rutland County Council, prompting the appeal at Victoria Hall, which began today.

The local protesters gathered ahead of a meeting with the developers, taking place in Victoria Hall at 10am.

Signs read: "Stop uncontrolled development of 'our' town."

"No Jeakins Weir Braunston Rd North housing development."

"Keep Oakham's Greenfield sites green!"

"Health before wealth: Oakham's GP surgery requires urgent improvement."

One protester, Scott Henderson, said that the development would be "unwanted, un-need and uncontrolled" adding that Rutland has recently suffered from overdevelopment and that the infrastructure could not cope with the amount of houses being built.

Find out more about the result of this meeting and hear from those involved in the appeal and protest.
