Some of Rutland's roads will soon feature new speed devices as part of an ongoing roll out to upgrade the county's road safety infrastructure.

The second phase of a three-year project to replace all of Rutland's Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) and Vehicle Activated Signs (VASs) with new, modern versions is about to get underway, with villages including Great Casterton and Tinwell involved.

Councillor Christine Wise, Portfolio Holder for Transport, Environment and Communities, said: "These upgraded signs are an essential part of helping to keep our roads safer. They help to protect our communities by encouraging drivers to reduce their speed in high-risk areas such as schools, residential streets, and rural bends. Moving into Phase 2 demonstrates real progress in our commitment to safer roads across Rutland."

The updated signs will provide clearer displays, improved reliability and better data to help the Council monitor traffic and respond to speeding concerns.

The authority says the 69 signs are an important part of the Council's ongoing work to improve road safety. They remind drivers to slow down and are particularly effective in built-up areas, near schools, and along rural routes where speeding has been an issue.

Research shows that SIDs and VASs can reduce average speeds by around 3 to 5mph, which RCC says is a 'small but significant difference that can help to prevent accidents and protects lives'.

The existing network is being replaced because RCC says they are becoming harder to maintain.

The next phase of installations will take place in:
