On Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of August, the 2022 RYA Sailability Multiclass Regatta took place at Rutland Sailing Club, and the club have since released the results and congratulated all involved.

The event saw over 40 boats participating, enabling sailors from across the country to take part, including wheelchair users, who have found that sailing is an inclusive and accessible sport thanks to RYA's Sailability campaign

Sailability is all about allowing a variety of sailors to access sailing in a safe environment, with the help of volunteers and staff who adapt sailing to fit the individual, enjoy the outdoors, and cultivate a safe but competitive environment for sailors to thrive.

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) have over 200 Sailability Clubs across the country, including Rutland, so to host this event is a proud moment for Rutland Sailing Club.

This event was particularly well attended, with both sailors and volunteers being congratulated for their hard work and dedication to the sport.

In first place overall was Rutland based sailor, Graham Hall.

Claiming second place was Paul Phillips of Frensham Pond Sailability.

Coming in with an admirable third place overall was Rory Mckinna from Clyde Cruising Club's Dinghy Section.

The Rutland Sailing Club team said: "Well done Graham Hall, Rutland Challenger Sailor. First overall at the RYAS Multiclass Event winning the Ken Ellis Trophy! As first placed Challenger he also received the Millar Management Trophy. What a fantastic result for Rutland Sailing Club and Rutland Sailability.

"Congratulations also to all the members of Rutland Sailability and Rutland Sailing Club who participated/contributed both ashore and afloat."

Pauline Crowley, the Chair of Rutland Sailability added: "Its the morning after and Im sitting here trying to fathom how on earth does one begin to draft an adequate thank-you. A big, big thank-you to all the members of Rutland Sailability and Rutland Sailing Club who contributed so much time & energy to the smooth, safe & successful delivery of the event both ashore and afloat.

"To list the tasks fulfilled risks unkind omissions but suffice to say, excellent team-work and A job done well done. Thank-you! And to all our sailors, congratulations to those who finished Bronze, Silver & Gold. Youve set the bar high. But success is not only measured in medals.

"Despite the size of our team, we may not have won the Best Club trophy (calculated by our average scores) but we absolutely won out on the number sailors, comparatively new to racing, who were able to experience the lows and highs of participating many for the very first time. Congratulations!"

Congratulations to all involved.
