The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess of Edinburgh will be visiting Rutland this May 2024.

Youngest brother of King Charles III, Edward, and wife Sophie, are paying a visit to Rutland's county town this month.

The official Royal Diary website says that the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will visit the Rutland Belle at Bull Brig Lane, Oakham, and Rutland Showground, Showground Way, Oakham on 14 May.

The schedule suggests that there will also be visits to Oakham Caslte and Library, with locals hoping that the pair will be visiting the statue located behind Oakham Library and possibly even adding a new horseshoe to Rutland's collection.

The seven foot monument was the first memorial statue to be built since Her Majesty's passing and, while the unveiling did not welcome any members of the royal family, many local officials, members of the public and corgis attended the launch on 21 April.

In 2022 HM Queen Elizabeth II died, and the following year Charles III bestowed on Edward the title of duke of Edinburgh. Sophie thus became the duchess of Edinburgh.

The Duke of Edinburgh is His Majesty The King's brother and the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He dedicates much of his time as a full-time working member of the Royal Family to championing young people and promoting the benefits of non-formal education across the world.

A full-time working member of the Royal Family, The Duchess of Edinburgh splits her time between her work on behalf of The King across the UK and Commonwealth and support for a large number of her own charities and organisations.

Her Royal Highness concentrates much of her work on supporting women and championing gender equality, be it in the workplace or in other areas of society, both in the UK and overseas.

The royal couple will be visiting Rutland on Tuesday 14 May 2024.
