Rutland writer and actor launches new musical with poem honouring a popular comedian

Sunday 22 February marks what would have been British actor and comedian Kenneth Williams' 100th birthday.
Henry Dawe, an Uppingham-based actor and writer who has appeared in numerous local shows and created his own radio play,
Kenneth Williams is the first of five Centenary poems Henry has written and recorded, celebrating the famous actor and comedians career on screen.
Best known for his regular appearances in the Carry On film series in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. He also co-hosted his own TV variety show on BBC2 called Meanwhile, as well as often appearing reading stories on Jackanory.
Williams passed away in 15 April 1988 after overdosing on barbiturates. The inquest following his death as it was not possible to determine whether it was an accidental overdose or suicide.
Henry Dawe has used the publishing of his poem recording as an opportunity to announce Kenny! The Kenneth Williams Centenary Musical.
Written by Henry Dawe with music by Tom Neill, the musical will open at Uppingham Theatre on 16 May.
