The govovernment's Department for Transport (DfT) has allocated £1million to Rutland County Council to spend repairing local roads over the next year.
Coun Lucy Stephenson, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure, Environment, Highways, Transportation and Road Safety said: "The Government's road maintenance funding is essential to keep Rutland's local road network in good condition.
"Following the recent severe winter weather, road surfaces can become damaged by sudden and prolonged drops in temperature.
"This funding means vital repairs and preventative maintenance to our roads can be carried out and help to support the safety of road users over the next year."
Rutland County Council will work alongside its Highway's partners Tarmac to prioritise the funding to sections of network that need it most.
The monies will be used to not only repair potholes, but also for larger works to improve the footways and roads within Rutland.
This work also includes preventative treatments such as surface dressing works which are a quick, efficient and cost-effective way of maintaining skid-resistant and waterproofed road surfaces and helping to prevent future deterioration.
Costing just a fifth of the price of resurfacing works, it can increase the life of the carriageway by up to 10 years.
The Government's road maintenance funding is allocated to councils and combined authorities based on a formula which uses the length of roads, number of bridges and level of street lighting.
The funding is the second of five instalments from the £2.5 billion UK Government's Fund announced by the Chancellor in the 2020 Budget.
A scheme of road maintenance works for the forthcoming year will be put forward to Cabinet and Council for approval over the coming months.
Council meetings are being held virtually at the current time and residents can watch all meetings and access the council papers here.
