Rutland’s Ukrainian Rotary Club to undertake abseil to deliver mobility aids to those affected by the war

Members of the Ukrainian Rotary Impact Club of Rutland are undertaking a daring abseil on Saturday 16th August to raise money to send wheelchairs and mobility aids to those affected by war in Ukraine.
Six members of the group will be taking part, including two brave teenagers aged 13 and 16.
The abseil will take the team 418 feet down at the National Abseil Centre, which is the tallest permanent abseil tower in the world.
Nadia Tikhonova from the Ukrainian Rotary Impact Club said: 'We are proud to be the first Ukrainian-led Rotary Club in the UK – a volunteer-led group of displaced Ukrainians and local residents working hand in hand to transform hardship into hope, both in Ukraine and here in Rutland.'
So far, since its creation in 2024, the club has sent six ambulances full of vital medical supplies and mobility equipment to Ukraine, as well as delivered aid directly to hospitals, care homes and families in need.
They have also supported local causes such as the Rutland Food Bank and First Responders.
Ahead of their abseil, the team has raised £750 to help restore mobility, hope and independence to those impacted most by the war.
There is still the opportunity to donate via their GoFundMe page.
