A community drop-in session is set to take place in Rutland this week, supporting vulnerable individuals within the local community and educating residents on ways to save money - and much more.
The aim of these sessions is to help residents stay Warm, be Optimistic and remain Well.
The W.O.W drop-in session are run by the Rural Community Council, and include information on:
- your water bill
- carbon monoxide safety
- staying safe in your home
- cooking efficiently
- priority services register
One successful session took place last week, and was well attended, with residents being encouraged to attend to learn without shame by organisers, Rural Community Council.
Rural Community Council is a charity supporting disadvantaged people and communities across Leicestershire, Rutland and surrounding rural areas.
Their next and final drop-in session is set to take place on 30 January, and is aimed at those who are interested in saving money on household bills.
The volunteer team understands how making new connections, creating warm and welcoming community spaces and supporting local voluntary action can improve peoples health, wellbeing, resilience, and overall quality of life. This is why they place these simple actions at the heart of their work to care for people and communities facing issues and disadvantage in the surrounding rural areas.
The team is travelling to all corners of rural Leicestershire and Rutland, popping up warm and welcoming spaces for people to connect and explore creative ways to stay warm, well, and save a bit of money too.
Their current W.O.W project is at the heart of this, helping local residents to stay Warm, be Optimistic and remain Well.
The upcoming session will take place from 10:30am until 12:30pm 30 January 2024 at Pepper's- A Safe Place on Oakham High Street.
Alternatively, the team host regular Rural Coffee Connect events across the county and surrounding villages.
A spokesperson from the team concluded: "With a delicious free cup of coffee from our famous coffee van, everyone receives a warm welcome at their Rural Coffee Connect and WOW hubs. Whether you come along for a chat, to find out about advice and support on cutting energy bills, or to try one of our creative slow cooking or draught excluder making activities, there is something for everyone."
