Save the date: 'Dead easy' educational event on preparing for end of life
By Grace Kennington 16th Apr 2026
Dying Matters Rutland is inviting Rutland residents to a free community event to normalise talking about death and end-of-life planning.
On Wednesday 6 May, Dying Matters is holding a free event at The Rutland Showground from 2pm to 4pm, where a range of local experts will be speaking and answering questions about end-of-life planning.
Dying Matters Rutland is a local charity trying to improve end-of-life care by encouraging people to talk to one another, make those plans and get on with living well without the stress of what comes after.
There is a lot to consider about dying and often these conversations do not happen until someone has passed and it is too late to ask them.
When a loved one passes away, emotions are high and conversations become very difficult. Dying Matters Rutland encourages people to start these discussions early, starting with light hearted conversations about bucket lists or outrageous funeral music choices, and from them delving into deeper matters.
Dead Easy: A Guide to the Inevitable is a talk intended to take away some of the stigma and awkwardness out of these conversations and give you a clear guide of where to start.
The guest speakers that will be at the event include:
- Sally Cox - a local solicitor with expertise in wills, probate and tax affairs,
- Tom Johnson - the lead funeral director at E M Dorman Independent Family Funeral Directors, discussing funeral planning, burials and cremations,
- Sammi Le Corre - from the Integrated Care Board and Neighbourhood Health and Care Strategy Lead at Rutland County Council will talk about issues around end-of-life health care,
- a financial advisor,
- a counsellor
