Rutland County Council is urging people to fill in a survey to help it gauge the need for a 'wellbeing hub' to help the county's veterans.

The Charnwood, Melton and Rushcliffe Armed Forces Covenant project is working in partnership with Loughborough Wellbeing Centre to explore the idea of setting up a Wellbeing Hub for Armed Forces Veterans across the region.

A survey explained: "The Veterans Wellbeing Hub will provide a safe and secure place for veterans offering support, advice, food and drink and friendship with other veterans. The hub will also provide veterans opportunities to take part in creative and physical activities, as well as access to a sessional worker for additional individualised holistic support.

"We aim to create a blend where we can provide veteran specific help and support but with opportunities to broaden their social openings by being able to feel comfortable enough to use the wellbeing hub at any time and join in with quiz nights, bingo, creative writing and other social activities.

"The Wellbeing Hub is very much in the early stages and we would welcome any thoughts and feedback to help us shape this new provision should our funding bid be successful.

"Views are being sought from people in Charnwood but also across the rest of Leicestershire, Leicester, Rutland and Rushcliffe in Nottinghamshire as it is hoped these areas may also create hubs in the future."

Rutland County Council already helps veterans through its Veterans' Gateway and it is also a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant.

The county council also has an Armed Forces Champion and Armed Forces Officer in former soldier Coun Ian Razzell.

Coun Razzell commented underneath an online appeal from Rutland County Council on the subject: "Really important stuff folks - there is always more we can do for our service families and veterans. Please contribute and help shape the future."
