Sigma Sports has revealed when the road cycling and triathlon retailer's Oakham store is to open.

The South Street retail outlet was due to launch in April, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Today (Fri) managing director Ian Whittingham told Oakham Nub News that the new store will be opening its doors to customers for the first time on Thursday, 17 September.

The 4,000 square feet of retail space will sell a range of premium brands for road cyclists, mountain bike enthusiasts and triathletes and runners of all abilities.

"We are genuinely very, very excited to be opening our store in Oakham and engaging with the active outdoor community in the area," said Mr Whittingham, "especially as there has been a huge surge in interest in cycling and outdoor activities since the start of coronavirus."

Oakham was chosen for the company's second shop - its flagship store is in Hampton Wick, South West London - not only because of the space and warehouse facility, but for its location close to the renowned Melton International CiCLE Classic.

The new store opening is creating 12 full-time jobs.

"We have recruited a sales team of seven, a bike fitter and four mechanics who are currently undergoing training at our Hampton Wick store.

"Knowledgeable staff that deliver exceptional customer service are key to our success as a company," added Mr Whittingham.
