Do you want to make a change in Oakham? Town Council looking for new members

Oakham Town Council is looking for new members to bring fresh ideas to the council.
Whether you see issues in the community that you'd like to help fix, or if you want to introduce new views, joining Oakham Town Council could be the perfect opportunity to give back to the town and work towards a better future.
Oakham Town Council represents the community, and its aim is to improve the quality of life for Oakham's residents, boost community wellbeing and offer services to meet local needs.
Not only does this opportunity help the council, but members also gain valuable experience in governance and local service, as well as working to drive local initiatives in sustainability and community wellbeing.
Becoming a councillor is a fully voluntary position, with full council meetings normally held once a month on a Wednesday evening.
In a recent interview with Nub News, Councillor Paul Ainsley described the town council as 'chronically understaffed'.
It is currently having to operate with only six out of twelve councillors. This means there is too much work between too few people, putting pressure on the current members.
Cllr Ainsley hopes that more younger people will join the council to bring in new ideas and strategies.
Cllr Ainsley has also proposed the introduction of a small members allowance to encourage people to get involved with the council, reducing the burden on existing councillors and hoping to make a more efficient and effective council for Oakham. This incentive is currently being discussed by councillors but with no immediate plans to introduce it.
