The Stamford branch of S.A.P.S has announced that it will be closing.

The Oakham shop will remain open.

Stamford Animal and Pet Supplies, which sells toys, food, clothing and more, will be closing at the end of June as the cost of overheads make running the store impossible.

The locally-run business has been central part of the community for 24 year, providing for the host of dog, horse and other pet owners in the area, as well as supporting local charities and groups with fundraising efforts and more.

The Radcliffe Road store was launched in 1985, with SAPS taking over in May 1999.

The team took to social media to share the sad news: "It is with great sadness that we have to inform customers that SAPS Stamford will be closing at the end of June.

"This decision has not been taken lightly, but due to the ever increasing overhead costs beyond our control it is essential.

"We would like to thank you all for your support and custom over our 24 years of trading in Stamford.

"SAPS Oakham is remaining open and they would love to see you there."
