State primary and secondary schools across Rutland and Melton will receive an extra £2,418,105 in Government funding.

Schools will receive their first payment by 10 May 2023, and will be able to choose how best to invest the extra funding, including to pay for teacher salary uplifts and teaching assistants.

This money is part of an extra £2 billion in Government funding for state schools across England, delivering on the Government's commitment to provide a world class education and deliver opportunity for all.

This extra funding will deliver the highest real terms spending per pupil in history by 2024-25.

In total the schools budget will be £58.8 billion in 2024-25, and school funding is set to rise faster than forecast inflation in both 2023-24 and 2024-25.

Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton said: "This extra funding for state schools across Rutland, Melton, the Vale and Harborough villages is brilliant news, helping our young people to reach their full potential.

"We are fortunate to have so many talented pupils in our communities, and this funding will provide a huge boost for local schools, ensuring they have the services and support available so that every child receives the high quality education they deserve.

"I am so grateful to all our fantastic teachers, school leaders and support staff for all the outstanding work they do on a daily basis. This extra funding will make sure that they have all the resources they need to continue shaping the lives of our school children."

Since Alicia's election, Ms Kearns' office have also secured funding for:

  • the refurbishment of Great Casterton College
  • maintenance funding for 11 schools
  • sparsity funding for 23 primary schools across Rutland and Melton
