A Rutland pub with links to highwayman Dick Turpin appears to have won a temporary stay of execution.
The planning committee of Rutland County Council was recommended to approve a scheme to demolish the historic Ram Jam Inn, at the side of the A1 near Greetham.
Current and previous plans to demolish the Ram Jam have regularly faced opposition over the years, with reasons including the links to Dick Turpin, even though Historic England says the building is not worth listing.
As Nub News recently reported, the Godwin Group seek to demolish the pub and redevelop the site to provide three drive-thru units for use as a restaurant, café or hot food takeaway, and one drive-to unit for use as a shop, restaurant or café with
associated parking and landscaping. The meeting heard last week that the scheme would provide 961m2 of retail floorspace, plus 72 parking spaces. If approved, there would also be landscaping and alterations to the existing site accesses from the B668 However, a council spokesman told Nub News today: "Committee members were concerned about access arrangements. Officers will now undertake further work and consultation with residents on this proposal."
