In a survey carried out by Alicia Kearns, MP for Rutland and Stamford, has shown two-thirds of residents do not support the reorganisation of local councils.

The results of the survey carried out by Kearns' team showed 25% of those asked did agree with reorganisation, while 67% did not and 8% didn't know.

In a statement published by Kearns' alongside the survey results, she said: 'Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete my survey to share your views on proposals for Local Government Reorganisation.

'The results showed a clear opposition to proposals to abolish District Councils, such as South Kesteven and Harborough District Councils, and smaller Unitary Councils like Rutland, replacing them with larger Unitary Councils.

'I have shared the results from my survey with our Councils to ensure your voices are listened to and represented in negotiations. Over the next few evenings, I will be sharing your views – keep an eye out.'
