Take a look inside Rutland refill eco-shop which opened today

By The Editor 29th Jul 2021

A zero waste refill shop opened its doors in Oakham today.

Rutland Refill is a Community Interest Company created by director Jenni Penfold, who had always had a dream of opening a zero-waste shop and cafe to give local people a welcoming community hub.

The premises are at 1 Westgate, Oakham, which previously contained the Mermaid Fish Bar.

Spokeswoman Michelle Martell, who last year opened the Eco Shop in Great Casterton, told Nub News: "When the opportunity came for a right space, next-door to her hairdressing salon, Number Three Eco Salon, Jenni knew the time was right!

"We are a zero-waste refill shop where you can buy groceries, cleaning and health and beauty products without plastic packaging!

"A lot of our products are from local independent businesses. In the upcoming weeks we are also opening a café and deli where our customers can sit back and relax whilst enjoying some of our products.

"Any profits that are not reinvested into Rutland Refill will go to local and environmental causes."

Michelle added: "We will also be offering work experience and a service for local people with SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) offering training, life skills and work opportunities.

"To grow, we need volunteers to work in our shop and cafe and to date, the response has been amazing. If anyone would like this opportunity, can we ask them to pop into the shop."
