A 'considerable number' of teachers will go on strike later this week as the country's biggest education union walks out.
The National Education Union is holding the first day of industrial action on Wednesday 1 February 2023, which is expected to impact schools across the county.
100,000 teachers will go on strike across the UK.
Closures will be down to individual headteachers, meaning that parents should communicate directly with schools to clarify opening procedures commencing tomorrow, 1 February.
The dispute revolves around pay, with the NEU saying that members have been given a real-term pay-cut, and claims both students and teachers are being failed by the government.
Following the nationwide strike on Wednesday, further action is anticipated to take place on 1 March 2023.
Last-minute talks were held to avoid the strikes, but no agreement was reached.
Teaching union leaders accused the education secretary, Gillian Keegan, of squandering the opportunity to avert strike action as they emerged from talks at the Department for Education on Monday.
The meeting lasted approximately half an hour, after which the NEU joint general secretaries, Dr Mary Bousted and Kevin Courtney, said: "Gillian Keegan has squandered an opportunity to avoid strike action on Wednesday."
