Tesco profits soar, but what does this mean for Rutland shoppers?

Tesco has said that price inflation in groceries had "lessened substantially", despite pre-tax profits hitting £2.3bn, up from £882m in the year until February 2024.
The UK's largest supermarket chain has been criticised for raking in such high profits when families are struggling to put food on the table, despite the company's CEO, Ken Murphy, saying that the company had been working hard to cut prices.
Mr Murphy has attributed high profits, in part, to people not eating out, so spending more on food to eat at home.
Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham, said: "Tesco's profits are another example of excessive profiteering fired up by astonishing corporate greed. It's this rampant profiteering which is driving inflation, and cranking up the cost of living crisis for workers and their families.
"There has been an abject failure in leadership from the government who have done absolutely nothing to reduce these staggeringly excessive profits of supermarkets like Tesco."
The Unite Union has also criticised "astonishing" bonuses given to shareholders, as a total of £704 million was paid in dividends and last July.
Tesco has welcomed 87 new stores over the last year, as well as undertaking 389 store refreshes - one of which was in Rutland's Oakham store.
