Three of Rutland County Council's senior managers were paid a total of almost £400,000 last year, a report issued today reveals.
The TaxPayers' Alliance 'Town Hall Rich List' shows that the council's Chief Executive, Director of Peoples and Director of Resources received a combined £389,962 in salaries, expenses and pension contributions in 2017-2018.
Rutland County Council responded: "The salaries of all senior managers at Rutland County Council are outlined in the Council's Pay Policy, which is set openly and transparently and published in full view of the public each year.
"The council is committed to providing all staff – at every level – with fair pay that reflects their roles and responsibilities. When setting pay, we must also consider the competitive nature of the jobs market and the need to recruit the right people, with the right skills.
"Our most senior staff are in charge of many complex and critical services. They also have ultimate responsibility for protecting and caring for some of the most vulnerable people in our communities."
The TPA's Town Hall Rich List is the only comprehensive list of its kind, with council-by-council breakdown. Praised in the past by politicians from across different political parties, it is the go-to guide for local government executive pay deals.
It details the full remuneration and many of the names of all local council employees whose remuneration exceeds £100,000.
The TPA is a lobby group focused on reforming taxes and public services, cutting waste and speaking up for British taxpayers.
