An Uppingham teenager has scooped The Shirley Malster Award for Oundle Young Singer of the Year at Oundle Festival of Music and Drama...for the second time.

Classical soprano Katie Marshall picked up the award at the festival earlier this month having also won the title two years ago.

Katie told Oakham Nub News: "I am thrilled to have won the prestigious Shirley Malster award for Oundle Young Singer of the Year.

"This is the second time I have won this award, the first being in 2017.

"The final Concert at St Peter's Church was such a wonderful opportunity to watch other competitors from the festival.

"I really enjoyed performing the songs at the concert that won me the Young Singer of the Year Award.

"It was then really special to be presented with my award by Shirley Malster herself. "

Katie, a former pupil of Uppingham's Leighfield Junior School and Oakham's Catmose College, has won many classical singing awards around the UK as well as being nominated for a Classic BRIT in 2018.

She has performed at the O2 in Next Brit Thing, alongside stars such as Julian Ovenden on the Downton Abbey Christmas CD and with André Rieu's soprano Mirusia Louwerse on her tour in the Netherlands.

She was a guest soprano on G4's Christmas and 'Back For Good Tour', Britain's Got Talent's Jonathan Antoine's UK tour and Britain's Got Talent's Vox Fortura 2017 tour.

Her latest album, Voice Devine, is a collection of arias, sacred and musical theatre songs produced by VOCES8 musical director who also recorded Katie's self-titled EP.
