Former Scotland international rugby union player Andrew Hall has been appointed as Director of Rugby at Uppingham School from September.

Andrew leaves his post as Head Coach of the Hong Kong Rugby Team at the end of this season, having been a member of their coaching team since 2012.

During his time there, he has served in a number of senior positions, including Assistant Coach and Head of the Elite Rugby Programme.

Andrew retired as a player in 2005, having played for Scotland, Newport Gwent Dragons, Glasgow Warriors and Moseley.

In a statement, the school described Andrew as "an enthusiastic, committed, and passionate coach who joins the School with a wealth of experience."

Andrew is also an experienced public speaker and is currently completing a PhD in High Performance Cultures. As a coach, he is known for his natural leadership skills and experience in developing and delivering exceptional programmes for professional players.

Rugby is a popular sport at Uppingham, and while many pupils play for enjoyment, others aspire to play rugby at the highest level.

The school statement continued: "As the new Director of Rugby, Andrew will build on excellent foundations and continue to grow genuine enthusiasm for the game amongst Uppinghamians, as well as leading a strong and nationally regarded rugby programme at the School.

"Uppingham's vision for sport is to create an environment where pupils can develop a love for sport that lasts a lifetime. Sport is a way of life at Uppingham, and our teaching programme ensures pupils of all ages and aptitudes are enthused, inspired, nurtured, stretched and supported.

"As the Director of Rugby, Andrew will ensure that every rugby player at Uppingham participates, enjoys and excels in this vibrant and popular sport. His experience in the professional game will be of great benefit to our aspirational players, who will be involved in a progressive rugby programme that will facilitate opportunities and nurture our elite talent."

Uppingham's Headmaster, Dr Richard Maloney, said: "I am delighted to welcome Andrew Hall to Uppingham as our new Director of Rugby. Having a player and a coach of his calibre join the School displays our commitment to offering a sports education that is enjoyable for all and in which all pupils can achieve success.

"Andrew's knowledge, expertise and excellent coaching style will further enhance and progress our excellent rugby programme, with his professional experience making him an ideal role model for pupils who wish to play rugby at the highest level."

Andrew Hall said: "I am pleased to be joining Uppingham this September. I am really looking forward to getting involved in this forward-thinking school, continuing the progression of the rugby programme and working with the pupils to develop their skills. Uppingham offers a dynamic and exciting school life for its pupils, and I can't wait to get involved. I'm eager to come back to the UK with my family and meet everyone in the Uppingham community."
