Organisations, families and individuals in Oakham are being sought to show visitors from Barmstedt Twinning Association all that is great about the town and forge new friendships.

A group of six residents from the north west German town will be in Oakham for five days early next month.

Angie Humphreys, of Oakham Twinning Association, says: "Our two towns' twinning link is now 32 years old.

"Over the years exchanges have occurred between bands, footballers, artists, schools, scouts and many individuals.

"Some people may recall the It's A Knockout contest in 1997, when teams from Oakham, Barmstedt, Roissy en Brie (French twin town of Barmstedt), Colwyn Bay and Middelfart (Danish twin town of Barmstedt) competed in Cutts Close.

"Six people are visiting from Barmstedt from 4 to 8 July and we would like to hear from organisations who can show them what a wonderful community Oakham is as well as families and individuals wanting to discover more about twinning exchanges."

Families and twinning association members in Barmstedt have also extended an invitation to Oakham residents, who would like to create friendships for future twinning activities, to enjoy a two or three-day stay in the town in May 2020.

If you would like to welcome next month's visitors or visit our twin town - which is similar in size to Oakham - to meet some of the friendly residents email [email protected] to express your interest.
