UP CLOSE IN OAKHAM: Victoria Bullett of the upcoming Prink Clothing Store

By The Editor 2nd Sep 2021

Oakham has a new clothing store arriving on its High Street.

Launching Prink is Victoria Bullett, who previously hatched Hungry Birds.

The 31-year-old is married to Kiwi husband Jamie Bullett, who came to England's smallest county to play for Oakham Rugby Club five years ago. They have a beautiful dog called Tilly.

Victoria told Nub News: "I have lived in Rutland for 17 years. My dad built a house in Rutland when I was 14, before this I grew up in Leicester. I went to university in Cambridge to study nursing.

"I moved to Oakham when I set up my first business at age 23 to be closer to the shop. I have always loved Oakham/ Rutland and the people that live here."

Victoria continued: "I went to university to study Nursing but instead decided to open a coffee shop. This was something I had always dreamt of since the age of 14. I worked in a coffee shop called Truffles in Stamford on St Mary's Hill from the age of 14-18 and that's what set me off.

"I started hungry birds in Oakham on Burley Road and sold it to Ellen [Cryer] who now owns Hungry Birds. Ellen has gone from strength to strength. I know I sold the shop to the right person, this was always very important to me, as I had put allot of blood, sweat and tears into the shop.

"It was my life for 6 years I turned from a young adult there into the person I am today. Hungry birds will always be a part of me, and I have so many fond memories that will never be forgotten.

"I decided to sell because I felt like I had achieved what I had set out to do and felt like I was ready for my next challenge. The last couple of years I have been working in management but the calling to be self-employed was too strong. I missed Oakham's high street, my old customers and wanted to be apart of the local spirit again."

Victoria has long believed Oakham needed more clothes shops and if the opportunity arose, she would make the most of it. Hence, her new business at 29a High Street, Prink, a women's clothing and lifestyle store.

Victoria continued: "I will predominantly be selling women's clothing, but I will also stock, jewellery, candles, house ware accessories and cards. I want people to be able to pick up an outfit from my store and a gift as well at the same time. Nothing like killing two birds with one stone.

"I plan on bringing a more youthful edge to Oakham. My primary target is millennials, so ages 25-40. I will also be stocking size 6-16. Ready for summer next year I have some size 18's coming in too.

"I want to create a place where women can come and find something that makes them feel beautiful, at an affordable price. My dresses to give you a guide price will be from £30-£120 but I would say on average most of them sit at around the £60 mark.

"I have chosen lots of brands where sustainability is important too. Given our current climate I think its always important to be as sustainable as possible."

Victoria has already taken her first deliveries and is getting ready to open, hopefully, in the middle of September. The Prink website , Facebook and Instagram sites are all ready.

She added: "I am excited to start this new business venture and I would never have thought in my wildest of dreams I would have started two businesses along Oakham's high street.

"Sadly, I lost my grandparents recently. They both always enjoyed coming to Hungry Birds and I just know how excited they both would have been with me starting this new venture. I just hope they are proud.

"I will be doing a late-night soft opening for local businesses/ bloggers a few days before my launch day. Follow me on Instagram or Facebook to keep up to date. "
