Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service has revealed the cause of last week's serious fire at Uppingham Community College.

A three-storey block sustained significant fire and smoke damage - in addition to water damage as firefighters tackled the blaze in the early hours of Wednesday (26 Aug).

No one was hurt.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service told Oakham Nub News today: "I can confirm the cause of the fire was accidental - an electrical fault."

Pupils are unlikely to return to Uppingham Community College for at least another three weeks due to structural damage and fire damage contamination safety issues.

The school will be creating eight temporary classrooms and two temporary changing facilities for students, along with offices and work spaces for staff, for a phased re-start currently planned from 21 September.
