Uppingham Council object to plans for 163 houses accepted by Rutland County Council
A council has asked for a design review on a planning application that could affect up to 163 houses.
Members of Uppingham Town Council asked for the design review at a recent planning meeting because the original planning application for the homes near Leicester Road, Oakham involves a number of open green spaces.
All come within the Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan area, and these include a green area in the north west corner of the development site which incorporates two burial mounds.
The council objected to the application in its original form, saying: "The town council notes that the location falls within the Neighbourhood Plan area. The outline plan, as submitted, does not reflect the Neighbourhood Plan, nor the recommendations from the design consultancy meetings in respect of 1) Larger homes on frontage to blend in with other properties on Leicester Rd, or 2) Houses to be built around 'village green' spaces."
Planning permission for the construction of up to 163 houses was previously given by Rutland County Council (RCC), but with conditions which included site layout, scale, appearance, and landscaping.
Members triggered a policy of the Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan, which requires a design review on any development of more than 25 houses to take place.
It is expected to happen this week.
The reference for the proposal is 2023/0802/RES, and you can search for the documentation on the RCC website.
