Well-known Uppingham councillor and personality Ron Simpson has been elected as county chairman of the Campaign to Protect Rural England.

Coun Simpson was Rutland CPRE's former vice-chair and he replaces Malcolm Touchin of Uppingham, who retired.

Judy Geer of Oakham was re-elected Treasurer of the charity and Geoff Clyde of Whissendine its Administrative Officer.

The AGM on Saturday also saw Sir Laurence Howard of Whissendine reappointed as President and Patsy Clifton of Oakham as Vice President.

The former Uppingham Mayor, who is also active in many Uppingham affairs, has said that many changes in how the charity operates are likely to be implemented in the coming months.
