A vacant position on Oakham Town Council will remain until after the local elections in May.

That was the decision of the full council of Oakham Town Council at the meeting of 8 February, where mayor, Cllr Sally-Anne Wadsworth said: "Nobody has come forward to join Oakham Town Council despite having published the vacancy as soon as we knew Cllr Graham was resigning; therefore, we have decided to leave the position vacant until after the local elections in May."

Former Cllr David Graham, who only became a town councillor in September 2021, runs a Piano Café in Oakham, has a music agency, is a freelance saxophonist and is best known for playing with the 1970s band Showaddywaddy.

He is also the Chairman at Victoria Hall, which has seen a host of changes since he took over the post in April 2022.

These changes include a refurbishment of the Art Gallery, a range of new events - some in collaboration with Oakham Town Council - and the introduction of classes and sales run by local creatives and business owners.

The venue recently reopened their bar, working with local brewery, The Grainstore, to bring more evening events to Oakham's High Street.

Meanwhile, Oakham Town Council will remain a Councillor short until after the May elections, which are scheduled to take place on 4 May 2023.
