Voting has opened on Alicia Kearns MP's brand new competition to find Rutland and Stamford's favourite local pub.

Following the success of her annual Rutland and Stamford's Favourite Independent Shop Awards, Kearns has launched a one-off competition where residents are invited to vote for the local pub that they think deserves to be crowned as the area's favourite.

'Our local pubs are so much more than places to enjoy a drink or bite to eat,' said Kearns. 'They're where communities come together and connect.

'But our pubs are under real pressure from rising costs and new tax burdens.

'Across the country too many pubs are closing, and that's why I am delighted to launch my Rutland and Stamford's Favourite Pub Awards as a one-off this summer - to celebrate and shine a spotlight on the huge number of wonderful pubs we have across our communities, and encourage everyone to get behind our locals.'

The award aims to celebrate the vital role local pubs have in the area as community hubs, as well as highlighting the current issues the hospitality sector are facing.

With rising costs putting more and more pressure on businesses, Kearns hopes the award will raise the profile of local pubs as well as encouraging residents to support their local.

Voting is now open until Friday 14 August and the winner will be announced at the end of August.
