All good for a Rutland ramble

There's all sorts of tears, anger and confusion about impact of the tiers in the UK. There is though one thing we can all do - walk. Keeping fit in mind and body will help fight off both the virus and also the winter blues.
Ramblers UK have recently updated members on what they can and can't do in line with forthcoming restrictions. It highlights some of the complexities and challenges we all face trying to stay safe and follow government guidelines.
The good news is that whilst Rutland Ramblers are having to tailor activities they are still very much active.
Critically the national Ramblers body has stated: "Ramblers outdoor group activities can restart in all tiers from Wednesday, the 2nd December. Please follow travel restrictions in your area and do not travel to or from Tier 3 - very high alert areas."
So the good news, then, is that Rutland Ramblers' group walks are back up and running this weekend, with additional walks through to Christmas,
Safety is paramount. While Ramblers UK has indicated that walks can allow groups of up to 30 people, in Rutland a limit of 20 has been set - allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis. Stiles and kissing gates provide pinch points meaning that groups have to be limited.
The slightly less good news is that, for the time being, people living in Tier 3 areas are not allowed to walk in Tier 2 areas. So if you live in Stamford or Lincolnshire you can't walk in Burghley Park or in Pickworth Great Woods - since Burghley Park is in Tier 2 as it is falls under Peterborough; and Pickworth is in Rutland which is Tier 2. And likewise Easton on the Hill is in Northamptonshire which sits in Tier 2.
Confused? So Rutland Ramblers can only accept bookings from those who live in a Tier 2 area, which essentially means folks in Rutland or in Northamptonshire. Moreover, the next few walks will be confined to Rutland and Northamptonshire in order to comply with the latest guidelines.
This is obviously more than a little frustrating for people who live in Leicestershire or Lincolnshire but who love walking in Rutland. At least though walks are still available for the vast majority. And if you live locally and want to join a friendly bunch of walkers there's always a warm welcome for new members and visitors with the Ramblers.
Do watch out for details of upcoming walks on our website, and follow the details on how to book if you would like to join us.
