The August Bank Holiday is always jam packed with events for families, friends, locals and visitors to the area. This year, with the relaxing of Covid restrictions and a renewed enthusiasm for both attendees and local businesses, the list of local events is longer than ever.

Oakham Food, Drink and Craft Fair

Rutland Showground will play host to Oakham Food, Drink and Craft Fair from the 28th August – Monday the 30th August. Starting at 11am, the event will run until 4pm on Saturday, 5pm on Sunday, and 4pm once again on Monday. Tickets are only £2.50 with under 12's able to attend for free.

Queen Tribute Concert

Taking us from day to night, the Showground will also be hosting a Queen tribute concert on Saturday the 28th of August from 6 – 8pm. Tickets for this are £12.50 for anyone over the age of 10 and are available to buy here.

The Grainstore Brewery

Also running for the entirety of the bank holiday weekend is the Grainstore Brewery's 21st Annual Rutland Beer Festival. Entry is free, with the exception of a £3 deposit on a commemorative Rutland Beer Festival glass, which you can chose to keep or return for a full refund. There will also be live music and barbeques every day.

Mini Music Festival

Cutts Close Park will also be holding its weekly music event at the band stand, completely free of charge. Due to it being the bank holiday, the event will run on Sunday the 29th and Monday the 30th and additionally be hosting a free Punch and Judy show and have many local business trade stalls in attendance.

The Grainstore Brewery will have their mobile bar here too. Playing at this event are Band on the Run, Steel Drum Band, and Top Banana Band on the 29th, and Funked Up and Freudian Slipper on the 30th. Simply bring along a blanket or chair, or use one of the many supplied by Oakham Town Council, ready to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

The Piano Café by dg music

More music events running in the surrounding villages over the bank holiday can be found on the dg music website. Alternatively, why not pop in to the Piano Café for a coffee to find out more about these local gigs in person.

Rutland Farm Park

For the kids, and big kids out there, Rutland Farm Park is also opening its gates on the bank holiday Monday with entry from 10:00am. While under 3's go free, admission prices for kids and adults range from £6.50 - £7.50, with a family ticket, annual passes, and military discounts available.

Barnsdale Gardens

If you fancy something a bit quieter, Barnsdale Gardens are advertising their Garden Trails on the 29th of August from 12 – 4pm. These trails are suitable for both children and adults and there is also free access to the Garden Gift Shop, Nursery, and Tea Rooms.

Rutland Water

The Rutland Water car parks will also be open over the bank holiday, so there is still plenty of accessibility for those who want to get back to nature, exploring the paths and trails around the largest surface area reservoir in the UK.
