Rutland Water's world famous osprey Maya has laid her first egg of the season.

Wildlife enthusiasts at the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust said the egg-citing event happened on Tuesday morning (March 30).

The laying can be viewed on Facebook , and was also enjoyed on the trusts new web camera system, which can be viewed here.

Maya laid the egg at 11.45am - some 11 days after she and male 33(11) returned.

Yesterday, the Rutland Osprey Project also announced that a Rutland osprey, male S2(15) had made it safely back to the Biesbosch National Park in the Netherlands at the weekend.

They said: "S2(15) fledged from the Manton Bay nest in 2015 and every year since 2017 has been spending the spring and summer months in the Netherlands. He bred for the first time last year and successfully raised 3 chicks with a German ringed female BD 61."
