Is BP ripping off Rutland residents?
An Oakham Nub News reader has written to Oakham Nub News asking if BP is ripping off Rutland residents - so we have done our best to investigate fuel prices in and around Oakham to see if we can come up with an answer.
Local man Alistair Lister found himself short of diesel while driving to work last week, and wad forced to pop into the BP petrol garage off Lands' End way, alongside the A606.
Here, he paid 159.9 per litre, only to find, later that day, that the Corby BP had diesel at 146.9:
Mr Lister commented: "Last week, I had to refill the van before work as I was low on diesel, BP Marks and Spencer in Oakham was 159.9, which I thought was a bit steep. So, I checked out as I drove to my first job. Passing Budgens BP in Uppingham at 153.9, then at Marks and Spencer's Corby at 146.9.
"Three BP stations along a 15 mile gap on the A6003, and if I'd have filled up in corby with diesel l'd have saved £6.50 for the same fuel from the same supplier.
"The BP in Oakham is also more expensive than the BP on the A14 at Kettering which, in my experience, has been higher than anywhere else."
Mr Lister concluded by asking: "Are Rutlanders being ripped off?"
BP has been contacted for comment.
