The latest round-up of match reports and news from Greetham Valley Golf Club, by Bill Archer.

Ladies Winter Order of Merit Round 1 (Played November 2 on the Valley Course)

Although the weather forecast was very bad, 12 brave and optimistic ladies turned up to play, which was testament to their commitment and enthusiasm.

Sadly, the conditions the players started in got much worse as time went by. The steady rain turned into continual heavy downpours and to make matters even worse, the wind increased dramatically too. This resulted in the ground becoming saturated and soggy underfoot.

It got so bad that the whole field decided enough was enough and went in after just eight holes. A few brave souls did attempt to play a few extra holes, but also had to give up in the end. Therefore, the result had to be based on eight holes only.

Nevertheless, the result was very close! Pat Jamieson (handicap 15) came first with a very creditable 15 points given the playing conditions and second place was shared between Izzy Haughton (7), Fay Taylor (26) and Nicola Toon (15), all with 14 points. Five players following close behind on 13 points shared fifth place.

Round 2 of the competition will be played on Saturday 23 November.

Gents' Winter League Round 1: (Played November 3 on the Lakes Course)

The Winter League field was made up of a great total of 41 pairs this year, which have been split into five leagues.

The winner of each league plus the best three runners-up across the five divisions will go forward to the knockout stages early next year.

There were some very impressive wins. Notably, Craig Allen (12) and Darren Child (4) - incidentally, a substitute was used within this pair - who won their match 8&7 and Ray Gladwinfield (5) and Mark Hibbitt (16) who won their match 7&6.

Lincolnshire Ladies AGM: (November 4 at Woodhall Spa GC)

Several Greetham Valley GC ladies represented the club at Woodhall Spa on Monday at the Lincolnshire Ladies AGM (Bev Dolman, Jackie Friend, Gilly Grant, Lesley Storey and Lady Captain Liz Haughton). And they were very proud to see their own Gilly Grant elected County Captain.

Greetham Valley GC Ladies' Scratch team won the Lincs Scratch League Final against Woodhall Spa in September and the Salver was presented at the AGM to Greetham Lady Captain Liz Haughton.
