Rutland Council backs Internet Safety Day

Rutland County Council are supporting Safer Internet Day 2021, with people across the county encouraged to take part in free webinars aiming to raise cyber awareness and help everyone stay safe online.

The free sessions are due to take place on Tuesday 9 and Thursday 11 February, and will cover topics like:

Keeping youngsters safe online, including – advice about home schooling

Device safety and protection

Password guidance and account security

Protecting your personal information

Using social media safely

Risks of free or public Wi-Fi

Social engineering and phishing emails/texts

Telephone and letterbox scams

Where to report scams

Online shopping and online banking safely

Using tech responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively

Signposting to more sources of support and resources

As Nub News previously reported, the events are being staged by Leicestershire Police.

Coun Alan Walters, Cabinet Member for Community Safety said: "We have all come to rely on the internet more and more during the pandemic, whether it's for online shopping, remote working, home schooling or keeping in touch with friends and family in lockdown.

"Internet safety is something we should all prioritise and learn more about. These events will share useful information that's relevant for all ages, so I would encourage everyone to book a place."
