Rutland MP demands sanctions against China.
Rutland MP Alicia Kearns has demanded sanctions against the Chinese government concerning its treatment of the Uighar people by its Communist government.
She said in an article in the Times newspaper today that 'any doubts' over their treatment "have been permanently erased by reports of forced sterilisation and birth control imposed on tens of thousands of Uighur women."
She continued: "This is in addition to evidence of detention camps to treat the so-called pathology of religion, forced organ harvesting, rape, children ripped from their families, torture and DNA databases, that have also been uncovered in Xinjiang Province, all in a Chinese Communist Party effort to eradicate a religious minority."
Her article follows longstanding criticism from the MP of the Chinese government on the issue of the Uighur people from the MP, including a speech in Parliament during March.
She has also spoken out in favour of democracy activists in Hong Kong, who have thanked the MP for her backing.
Earlier this year, Ms Kearns, a security and counter-terrorism expert, launched a group to study the activities of the Chinese government , including its role in the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
The MP also opposed the involvement of Chinese company Huawei in the UK's 5G telephony networks well before the UK government changed its mind on the issue.
