Voting has begin in Oakham this morning to elect a new County Councillor for the Oakham South ward.

The candidates are:

Paul Browne (Liberal Democrat)

Andy Burton (Conservative Party)

For voters casting their vote in person, the polling station at Oakham Library opened at 7am, with it closing at 10pm tonight.

The by-election follows the resignation of Coun Nick Woodley, who resigned after speaking out against a planning application for 62 homes off Braunston Road, but members of the council's planning committee approved the scheme on the edge of town greenfield site, as previously reported by Nub News.

In line with Electoral Commission and Government guidance, Rutland County Council says voters must wear face masks or a face covering in the polling station to reduce risks from COVID-19. Hand sanitising-stations and single-use pencils for marking ballots will also be provided.
