Green-fingered residents invited to enter Oakham in Bloom's 2024 gardening competition

Oakham in Bloom's Gardening Planter competition 2024 is currently open, welcoming entries from green-fingered residents across Oakham.

Oakham in Bloom was formed in August 1997 and has since been recruiting volunteers from across the county to plant flowers boarders, hanging baskets and more floral displays across the area. The committee consists entirely of volunteers and works in partnership with Oakham Town Council, Rutland County Council, schools and youth groups, voluntary organisations, residents and businesses

Now, the team have opened their 2024 gardening competition, and novice gardeners, experienced pros and adults and children have been invited to join the fun.

The team said: "If you love gardening, want to improve your gardening skills, or showcase your creative ideas, this competition is for you!"

Adult Category

The adult category is for all the budding horticulturists over 14 years old (as of 30 June 2024)

The theme for the adult category is "A Summer's Day"

Under 14s Category

The under 14s category is for all the growing gardeners under 14 years old (as of 30th June 2024)

The theme for the under 14s category is "Seaside"

What you need to know:

  • The competition has two categories: Adults, and Under 14s
  • One entry per person
  • Judging will take place in July. Oakham in Bloom will contact you with the specific time and date of the judging
  • Judges will come round to individual's houses by appointment to judge the planter
  • Planters should be between 11"/28cm (diameter) and 18"/45cm (diameter)
  • The team want everyone who is interested to be involved and recognise some people may not have gardens or outside spaces, so indoor or outdoor planters are allowed
  • They are looking for creative planters featuring plants and other natural materials
  • The competition is open to all residents living in Oakham
  • There will be a prize for the winner of each category
  • Oakham in Bloom reserve the right to amend the terms and conditions if necessary, with notification to participants
  • Entrants authorise Oakham in Bloom to feature the planters in publicity materials
  • It is free to enter

How to enter

Get in touch to register that you'd like to take part in this competition by emailing [email protected]. In the email, include: Your Full Name, Address, Email, Phone Number, and which Category you are entering. You need to get in touch to register your interest before Sunday 30 June 2024.
