Music concert series in Rutland commences with a successful opening performance

The Music in Lyddington concert series for 2025 opened with a fascinating duo who lightened a spring evening with virtuoso performances on recorders and keyboard in a thoroughly modern manner.
Music in Lyddington is an charity and organisation which aims to provide music-lovers in Rutland and the surrounding area with performances from internationally renowned artists.
Without doubt Piers Adams is one of the finest recorder players in the UK today, and Lyddington was privileged to host this virtuoso recital. Almost all of the music Piers and Lydney Mayle played was composed in the baroque period, but always with a modern interpretation to give the instrument that many learned at school a thoroughly contemporary life. An adaptation of Richard Strauss's "Also Spracht Zarathustra" totally effective on recorder and keyboard, and a lively realisation of Bach's Goldberg Variations just slightly varied to give tango and modern dance rhythms.
A happy and lively start to this summer's "Music in Lyddington" series completely in harmony with the early spring.
Future events include:
- 26th April - Matilda Lloyd (trumpet) and Simon Lepper (piano),
- 24th May - The Piatti Quartet
- 21st June - Monteverdi String Band in Focus
