Rutland CAMRA have announced their 2023 Pub of the Year.

Following a year of testing out the best in local pubs and venues, the team of volunteers at Rutland CAMRA have announced their Pub of the Season winner and runner up.

Throughout 2023, four local pubs were awarded 'Pub of the Season', with these venues going head to head to bag the ultimate 'Pub of the Year' award from the regional group,

These pubs were:

  • The Railway Inn, Ketton - Spring 2023
  • The Exeter Arms, Uppingham - Summer 2023
  • The Wheatsheaf, Oakham - Autumn 2023
  • The Lord Nelson, Oakham - Winter 2023

Following much beer testing by the volunteer panel of CAMRA judges, the team have announced that The Railway Inn has been crowned the top local pub from 2023.

A spokesperson for the group said: "Rutland CAMRA's pub of the year is awarded to the Railway Inn in Ketton. Huge congratulations to the whole team there, well deserved!"

The Wheatsheaf in Oakham was a close runner-up.

The team added: "Every year, we call for volunteers for the Pub of the Year judging panel, who then will visit all four pubs of the season and use CAMRA's Pub of the Year Judging Guidelines and the weighted scoring system to determine our Pub of the Year and runner-up. It's a hard job but one we're never short of volunteers for!

"The Railway Inn will now go forward to the competition for the East Midlands Region CAMRA Pub of the Year and potentially from there, on to CAMRA's highly coveted National Pub of the Year."

Last year's winner of the prestigious Rutland Pub of the Year award was The Grainstore Brewery and Tap, while The Plough Inn in Caldecott was the runner-up.
