A day in the life of Rutland Police
Have you ever wondered what the Rutland policing team get up to?
Rural policing in counties such as Rutland is a varied role and involves regular engagement with local people and the farming community, as well as hands-on work with groups and schools, and direct engagement when crimes such as hare coursing, hunting offices and anti-social behaviour take place and are reported.
Rural officers also spend their days engaging with farmers and residents of rural areas, investigating those under suspicion of rural offences, offering crime prevention advice to communities and raising awareness of offence types and what people can do if they spot crimes taking place across the county.
The team also hit the roads in Rutland's new high-tech speed camera van, keeping drivers, motorcyclists and other road users safe.
This week saw PCSO Lyall on the Oakham town beat, stopping two vehicles in relation to their manner of driving. Both drivers were given words of advice and sent on their way.
Meanwhile, PC Angel met with Melody from Rutland Community Safety and Pam from Longhurst Housing Group to discuss anti-social behaviour on The Quadrant in Uppingham.
PC Angel said: "Whilst out on the beat we visited several addresses along the road to gather information in relation to drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.
"On our way back, we headed through Tod's Piece in the market town and spoke to many of the youths about climbing on the shelter next to the skate park."
The team then headed to Uppingham Town Hall Police Office, where they spent the afternoon chatting to residents about local concerns and answering questions about local policing.
They often share dates and times of their drop in sessions online and on the Rutland Police Facebook page, where you can follow the team for updates and news.
Residents can also report any local issues of anti social behaviour you may have to [email protected].
Rutland Police have reminded concerned citizens to call 999 to report a crime in progress.
The addition of Oakham's new Police Office has given local people another space to go to get in touch with the local team, who are in the premises from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday.
